When to paint

The following points will help you achieve the perfect paint job with Sandtex®

  • Allocate yourself enough time and try to work in fine weather conditions. Check the RTE Weather website
  • The best time to paint is when the walls are as dry as possible. Pick a day that's dry and warm, when there's not too much wind or fierce sun
  • Try to avoid painting late in the afternoon when there's a risk of morning frost or dew the next day as this may prevent the paint from drying properly
  • September and June are usually good decorating months- but of course you never can tell with the great British weather! It might be a good idea to visit the Met Office website to get the latest weather statistics.
  • Avoid gloss painting in windy, dusty conditions
  • Try to follow the sun; so that it has dried out the area you'll be painting and surfaces are warm and free from dew
  • Do not paint in direct sunlight as this leads to blistering whilst drying
  • Never paint wood that's wet
  • Do not paint if the temperature is likely to fall below 5° C (41° F).
